Dr. RICHARD ELMORE to speak to local audiences March 7th

The Greater Birmingham Mathematics Partnership is pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Elmore will be speaking to GBMP audiences during two presentations on Wednesday, March 7th.  Dr. Elmore is the Gregory R. Anrig Professor of Educational Leadership at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education and the Director of the Consortium for Policy Research in Education. His research focuses on the effects of local, state and federal education policy on the school and classroom. A renowned authority in educational leadership and reform, he contends that, "education reforms that are based on standards and accountability will fail unless policymakers also adopt a strategy to ensure that educators have the knowledge and skills they need to help students succeed.”  His presentations are expected to address such questions as:

What is the gap between standards and accountability?

What is reciprocity of accountability and capacity?

What can principals do in their schools to develop learning environments where students truly achieve?

What role do community and business leaders and policymakers play?

Richard F. Elmore
