Minor If you have already decided on a career in a field such as business, art, or education, you may think mathematics has little to offer you beyond completing your basic college requirements. Yet mathematics, as both an art and a science, can enrich your studies while honing skills to improve your career opportunities.
Major The B.S. degree in matematics is the minimal entry requirement for most careers in mathematics. In addition, it provides easy access to careers in health, science, and engineering.
Honors The Honors Program in Mathematics is designed for advanced, motivated students. Through a mentored research program format and seminars, research and communications skills are developed in preparation for a graduate or professional career.
Fast-Track Have you considered mathematics as the foundation of your career?... If you are intrigued by an intellectual challenge, then UAB has an offer that may interest you. The Mathematics Department has initiated a Fast-Track Program designed for students who are motivated to pursue advanced mathematical studies. The program navigates the student through an accelerated curriculum that allows one to complete both the BS and MS degrees in four to five years. The program provides as financial support Fast Track Undergraduate Scholarships of $5,200 per year (NSF supported).
MS The Master's program is of particular interest to those students who wish to teach at the secondary or junior college level, or work in industry at a technical level. All applicants admitted to our graduate program will be considered for financial support. Teaching assistantships and fellowships are available. A tuition award is also normally made to those holding teaching assistantships or fellowships. Opportunities are usually available for summer employment.
Ph.D. The Ph.D. Program in Applied Mathematics is designed to produce mathematicians qualified for both teaching and research at the college and university level, or for work in industry and government. All applicants admitted to our graduate program will be considered for financial support. Teaching assistantships and fellowships are available. A tuition award is also normally made to those holding teaching assistantships or fellowships. Opportunities are usually available for summer employment.
Alumni Visit our alumni page to find where our Ph.D. graduates are and what they are working on.
